Bridal florals at Montgomery Creek Ranch

When it comes to planning your wedding, one of the most exciting (and impactful) details is your wedding flowers. From your bridal bouquet to your reception centerpieces, florals set the tone for your celebration, elevate your décor, and create unforgettable photo moments. But how do you choose the right flowers for your wedding day?
Whether you’re dreaming of lush, romantic roses or chic, modern greenery, this guide shares expert wedding flower tipsto help you pick blooms that fit your season, budget, and wedding style.

1. Set a Realistic Wedding Flower BudgetOne of the first steps in planning your wedding florals is setting a clear budget. Flowers can account for 10–15% of your wedding costs, depending on your vision. Establish how much you’re willing to spend early on and communicate this with your florist. A professional will maximize your budget, suggest seasonal options, and ensure your floral design has the biggest impact.

2. Choose Seasonal Wedding FlowersWorking with seasonal wedding flowers ensures your arrangements look fresh, vibrant, and more affordable. Here are some popular options:
  • Spring Wedding Flowers: Peonies, tulips, lilacs, ranunculus
  • Summer Wedding Flowers: Roses, dahlias, hydrangeas, zinnias
  • Fall Wedding Flowers: Chrysanthemums, marigolds, sunflowers, astilbe
  • Winter Wedding Flowers: Amaryllis, anemones, holly, roses, pine
Seasonal blooms not only look their best but also help stretch your budget.

3. Match Florals to Your Venue and Wedding StyleYour wedding flowers should enhance your overall vision. Think of your venue, color palette, and even your dress:
  • Rustic barn wedding? Consider wildflowers, sunflowers, and greenery.
  • Elegant ballroom wedding? Orchids, roses, and calla lilies create a timeless, luxury look.
  • Boho-chic wedding? Pampas grass, dried florals, and bold textures make a perfect fit.
And don’t forget—your bridal gown’s details (lace, sequins, embellishments) should complement, not compete with, your bouquet.

4. Select a Wedding Color Palette & Meaningful BloomsFlorals are the perfect way to tie together your wedding color palette. Soft neutrals? Bold jewel tones? Classic whites? Your flowers can bring the whole look to life.
Also consider flower symbolism:
  • Roses = love
  • Peonies = prosperity
  • Baby’s breath = everlasting love
These subtle details add depth and meaning to your arrangements.

5. Pick Hardy Blooms That LastYour wedding flowers will be handled, transported, and photographed all day. Choose hardy options that hold up well in heat or movement. Ask your florist about blooms that won’t wilt before the reception—this ensures your flowers look flawless from “I do” to the last dance.

6. Repurpose Florals for Maximum ImpactWant to save money on your wedding flowers? Repurpose them!
  • Use your bridal bouquet as a head table centerpiece.
  • Place bridesmaids’ bouquets in vases at the reception.
  • Move ceremony florals to the reception entrance.
Stretching your florals helps maximize your budget while making every arrangement feel intentional.

7. Pocket Square Boutonniere or Floral Pocket Square vs. BoutonniereGrooms and groomsmen don’t have to stick to tradition! Instead of a standard boutonniere, consider a pocket square boutonniere or floral pocket square. Not only is this modern and stylish, but it also photographs beautifully and avoids issues with wilting or falling blooms.

8. Alternatives to Fresh Wedding FlowersFresh blooms are timeless, but don’t overlook alternatives:
  • Solo flowers or wood flowers – Cost-effective, natural-looking, and long-lasting.
  • Artificial flowers (high-quality only!) – Skip waxy, fake-looking ones, which show in photos.
  • Greenery & succulents – Chic, modern, and versatile décor options.
These choices can save money without sacrificing beauty.

9. Work with a Professional Wedding FloristPinterest is great for inspiration, but nothing beats hiring a professional florist who understands design, seasonality, and budget. They’ll bring your floral vision to life seamlessly.
✨ Highly Recommended Florist: Demi at Cellar Creations by Demarise creates stunning, unique designs and is a dream to work with. Contact her at [email protected] to start planning your perfect wedding florals.

10. Preserve Your Wedding Bouquet After the Big DayDon’t let your wedding flowers fade away—preserve them! Your bouquet is a symbol of your wedding day, and professional preservation lets you enjoy it for years to come.
I recommend Rebloomed Florals, a trusted service for wedding flower preservation. From pressed flower frames to resin keepsakes, they’ll transform your bouquet into a lasting memory.

Final Thoughts -
Your wedding florals are more than decoration—they’re an investment in your story, your photos, and your memories. By choosing seasonal flowers, setting a clear budget, and working with a professional florist, you can create stunning arrangements that truly reflect your style.
With a little planning (and some creativity), your wedding will be in full bloom—and every detail will be picture-perfect.

Meet Nicole Moore - Owner of Capturing Moore Memories
Vetting Your Wedding Photographer & Videographer: How to Choose the Right Team for Your Day and Your Future

Your wedding photos and films aren’t just for your Instagram feed — they’re the heirlooms you’ll treasure for decades. They’re the framed images on your walls, the pages in your album your kids will flip through, and the video you’ll re-watch on your 10th, 20th, and even 50th anniversary. Choosing the right wedding photographer and videographer isn’t just about your wedding day — it’s about your future memories.
Here’s how to make sure you’re choosing the right team to capture them.

1. Professionalism Matters -
You’re trusting someone with one of the most important days of your life — professionalism is non-negotiable. Ask these questions:
  • Do they have a valid business license?
  • Are they insured?
  • Do they provide a legally binding contract?
  • Do they have real, verified reviews from past couples?
These aren’t just formalities — they’re your protection against no-shows, lost files, or other disasters. A true professional will never hesitate to provide proof.

2. Professional Gear = Professional Results -
A wedding day is a live event — there are no do-overs. That’s why your photographer or videographer should be equipped with:
  • Dual slot cameras (so every image is instantly backed up to two cards)
  • Professional lenses to handle everything from dark reception halls to bright outdoor ceremonies
  • Lighting gear and the knowledge to use it — because not all venues have perfect light
A real pro invests in the right gear and knows how to handle any situation, from rainstorms to candlelit ceremonies.

3. Experience Beyond the Instagram Feed -
A beautiful Instagram post is great, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Before booking, ask to see a full wedding gallery or full-length wedding film — this shows you how they capture the entire day, not just the “highlight reel.”
You’ll get a true sense of:
  • How they handle different lighting conditions
  • How they capture candid vs. posed moments
  • How they tell the full story of a wedding day

4. Personality Fit is Key -
Your photographer and videographer will be with you more than almost anyone else on your wedding day — from getting ready to your grand exit. Make sure you actually enjoy being around them!
During consultations, notice if:
  • They make you feel comfortable in front of the camera
  • They listen to your vision and priorities
  • They can give direction without being pushy
When you mesh well, your images and videos will be more natural and authentic.

5. Back-Up Plans & Image Security -
This one is HUGE. Ask:
  • How do you back up my images and video during and after the wedding?
  • How long do you keep my files?
  • What’s your plan if a camera fails, a memory card corrupts, or a hard drive crashes?
Your memories deserve multiple layers of protection — from dual card cameras to cloud storage to off-site backups.

6. Bonus Tip: Know Their Editing Style & Delivery Timeline -
Every photographer and videographer has a unique editing style. Make sure you love it before you book — styles can’t (and shouldn’t) be completely changed after the fact.
Also, ask about delivery timelines so you know when to expect your gallery or film — especially if you want them in time for thank-you cards or anniversaries.

Final Thoughts -
Your wedding photography and videography are an investment — not just for your wedding day, but for your lifetime. Take the time to vet your vendors thoroughly, because these images and films will become part of your family’s history.
When you choose the right wedding photographer and videographer, you’re not just hiring someone to take pictures — you’re hiring a storyteller who will preserve your love story for generations.

Beer, Wine, and Whiskey—Oh My! Indiana Liquor Laws for Your Big Day

Indiana Liquor Rules for a wedding
Indiana Wedding Booze Laws 101: What You Need to Know
Let’s talk about something a little less glamorous than florals or dresses—but just as important: alcohol laws at your Indiana wedding. 🍻 Whether you're serving signature cocktails or keeping it simple with beer and wine, understanding Indiana’s liquor laws is crucial to avoid unexpected fines or worse—your bar getting shut down mid-reception.
Here’s the short version:
If you're planning to serve alcohol at your wedding, you must have the proper licensing in place. In Indiana, that often means a 3-way permit if you plan to serve beer, wine and liquor (yes, those fancy margaritas count). And no—your cousin with bartending experience can’t just show up and serve unless the event qualifies under very specific conditions.
Common Misconceptions & Oopsies:
  • A bartender cannot operate as a dry hire service unless:
    1. They're working under a beer + wine permit
    2. They’re employed by a licensed caterer, bar, restaurant, etc.
    3. It’s a private backyard event
  • Employee permits are not liquor licenses. A certified bartender still needs to be working under a company with a valid permit.
  • Hard liquor requires a 3-way license. Beer and wine only? That’s a 2-way.

As a wedding photo + film pro who’s seen it all, I always recommend hiring licensed, knowledgeable professionals to handle your bar service. That’s why I highly recommend:
🍷 Poured to Perfection – Michelle Bantle
🥃 Bourbon and Brews – Heather Sparks
Not only are these women absolute pros, but they’re incredibly knowledgeable about what’s legal, what’s not, and how to keep your celebration stress-free and smooth. Their communication is top-notch, and they’ll help you navigate permits, insurance, and all the things most couples overlook.
Tips for Booking a Bar Service Vendor:
✔️ Look them up on the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency – it’s free
✔️ Read reviews
✔️ Stalk their socials (seriously!)
✔️ Ask for references
✔️ Make sure they understand the permits and laws — and can explain them to you
✔️ Clear communication is key
Cheers to celebrating safely—and legally! 🥂
